3.5 The sections menu

The section edit options allow us to define the organisational structure of the website, that is, the arrangement of information into sections and sub-sections. Siteseed allows us to automatically include navigation bars in the website through the use of PHP functions in the interface models editor. Hence, the creation or removal of new sections from the website arrangement can be made quickly and immediately thereby ensuring greater flexibility as to their use.

3.5.1 Section editing

In order to change the organisational structure of the website select the option ‘Edit sections’ of the site, from the backoffice main menu.

The section edit interface is arranged in a tree structure. The main sections of the website are listed first. By clicking on any of them we can view the sub-sections it is divided into. The sub-sections may in turn also be divided. Siteseed supports an infinite number of section structures in a tree structure.

The section corresponding to the website’s Homepage is defined in the system by default and comes up on top of the list with the name ‘Main’. Next to each section, including the main section, is the option ‘Modify’ for the section characteristics. Below each section is the option ‘Insert section’ which allows a new section to be inserted on the same hierarchical level on the giving order.

3.5.1.1 How to modify a section

To modify the characteristics of a section, select the option ‘Modify’. The modify interface is as follows.

At the top of the screen the option ‘Return’ appears allowing us to go back to the sections list.
The first text box enables the section name to be inserted. The name given to the section will be used by the PHP functions of the Interface so this will therefore become the section identification name for visitors to the website.
Immediately after, appears the interface  list. For the edit section, a interface of the available list is made available. Hence, the layout of the section interface is defined.

The ‘Type of section’ list allows us to define the action to be performed by the system when the website user clicks on a hyperlink to a section. The sections may correspond to just one interface model, to a page object or to an article. If the intention is for the section to retrieve only one interface model then we should choose the ‘Nothing’ option; should the section correspond to a page object we ought to select the option ‘Section’; finally, should the section correspond to an article, select the option ‘Article’. Should the section correspond to a page object or to an article, then we should fill in the ‘ID’ box with the respective identifier of that page object or article. The identifier can be obtained from the article editor interface (see section no.), or through page object editing option (see section no.).

In order to implement the modifications made simply press on the ‘Modify’ button at the foot of the page.
