3.4 The article menu

The article menu allows us to define the field structure for articles, that is the number of fields, their descriptions, the parameter setting of the format taken on by the system in the article editor fields, in addition to the list of themes associated to the articles.

3.4.1 The field editor

Editing article fields is made from the ‘Article Fields’ option on the Articles menu.

The field editor allows the definition of the number of existing fields within each article file, its title and the format to be used in the article editor.

The article fields are identified by their title

Each field is defined according to whether it is searchable by the website search engine through the ‘search’ option located immediately on the left of the title field. In order to activate the search field, simply click on the square to the right of the word ‘Searchable’.

On the right of the title some of the parameters are defined setting out the way the field is to appear in the article editor:
Order – Defines the order according to which the form fields appear in the article editor. If, for example, the title field is defined as first in the field order

it comes up first in the article editor.

Columns – Number of columns in the text box pertaining to a field in the article editor. In order for the article editor form to work properly with the 800X600 pixel screen size, the number of columns should not exceed 60.

Rows – Number of lines in the text box pertaining to a field in the article editor. For example, for an article synopsis field, 5 lines will be enough.

For a text field it is advisable to have 10, 15 or an even greater number of lines

Bytes – The number of bytes provides for the definition of the maximum number of characters to be used in the article field.

To register the changes to the field configuration in the field editor simply click on the ‘Save’ option to the right of each field.

Update: Since version 1.5, there are now so-called component types. You can get the documentation here.
